Just before the release of Pebble Time 2 and Pebble 2, Pebble released an update for the firmware on the smartwatch: Pebble Firmware 4.0. In addition, the team has updated the mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Pebble has tweaked the interface, allowing certain key functions in applications to be performed with a single click, such as pressing play on a music player. There is also a function for Timeline with Quick Views that shows users what is happening at the moment and with which they can look up to three days into the future.

The Launcher has been addressed with App Glances, which makes more items visible at once and via App Glances you can immediately see information from an app with a preview function without opening it. It is also possible to assign frequently used Pebble apps to one of the four buttons on the watch with Quick Launch. In addition, it is now possible for developers to create apps with Rocky.js, Pebble writes on his blog.

For the iOS and Android app, some features have been added, such as improved Health Activity and Sleep graphs, to make them easier to understand at a glance. For iOS specific, there are more settings to change from the main menu.

Not all Pebbles can be upgraded to 4.0. Owners of a Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel are currently stuck with version 3.12.2 of the firmware. Whether this means that there will be an upgrade option to version 4.0 for these smartwatches in the future is unknown.
