PC Power & Cooling Introduces Pro-Source 1500 Ups
Under its sub-brand PC Power & Cooling, OCZ has introduced an uninterruptible power supply. According to the manufacturer, this emergency power supply is distinguished, among other things, by the high quality of the output voltage.
The Pro Source 1500, as the ups has been christened, could work with all power supplies from the PC Power & Cooling and OCZ range, but without a doubt PCs with a power supply from another manufacturer will also be able to handle the new ups. The ups has three 12V batteries of 7Ah on board. According to PC Power & Cooling, an ‘average’ PC, with a power consumption of 600W, can last about ten minutes when the power goes out. The ups can deliver a maximum of 900W, with which the majority of computers can be operated.
The output of the emergency power supply would be a pure sine wave. OCZ says the majority of entry-level UPSs produce a squared wave, which can be rejected by the PFC electronics of more sensitive, high-end power supplies.
The Pro-Source 1500 can be connected to the PC with a USB cable and software is included to send alerts, among other things. The software is suitable for Windows XP and Vista, Netware and various Linux versions.
A display on the front of the device shows the status of the emergency power supply. The ups responds to a power failure within 3ms, while the response time to a power drop is 1ms. The Pro-Source 1500 is actively cooled, measures 45cm by 20cm by 18cm and weighs 21 kilograms. The price of the ups would be just under $300 in the US.
