Red Dead Redemption 2 PC players are complaining about startup problems with the Rockstar Games Launcher. All kinds of players say that they can’t play the game because of this. Rockstar has released an update for the Launcher, but several players report that it didn’t help.

The developer reports in the release notes of the Launcher update that several issues should be fixed, including the issue where the error message ‘The Rockstar Games Launcher exited unexpectedly’ appears during the game launch. Many players report experiencing this issue, among other things, which prevents them from playing Red Dead Redemption 2 at all. Rockstar says it has resolved five issues around launching the game from the Rockstar Games Launcher with the update.

However, several players on Twitter report that this update has not had any positive effects. So says a player that he got the Launcher update, made all Windows, gpu and bios updates and tried various tips from Reddit but still crashes. Other players also report that they are still getting an error that the Launcher has closed unexpectedly. Rockstar’s support department is asking these players to submit a ticket in an effort to resolve the issues one-on-one. On a dedicated page, Rockstar provides some general tips for solving these problems, such as updating the GPU drivers, temporarily disabling the antivirus software, and restarting the Launcher.

A large Reddit collection thread about the issues also mentions performance issues, such as frequent hiccups. Several players report that they manage to fix this problem with the freezes by setting the CPU usage for the Red Dead Redemption 2 process to 98 or 95 percent. There is also a user who states that disabling two cores helps to get rid of stutters and freezes, although this is offset by a lower frame rate.
