PC gamers who own Fallout 76 get the Steam version for free

Gamers who purchased the PC version of Fallout 76 through the Bethesda.net launcher will get the Steam version for free. To qualify, they must link their Steam account to the Bethesda launcher before April 12.

The Steam version of Fallout 76 will be released on April 14, along with the Wastelanders expansion across all platforms. The release was supposed to take place a week earlier, but that has been postponed due to the vicissitudes surrounding the corona pandemic. Bethesda has now announced that gamers who have already purchased Fallout 76 through the Bethesda.net launcher are eligible to receive a copy on Steam. There is also crossplay between the two platforms.

Players will not be able to carry over to the Steam version any Atoms they have collected and purchased in the game so far. The same goes for the paid Fallout 1st subscription. Items purchased through the Atomic Shop will be available on both platforms. Gamers who purchase Fallout 76 on Steam between April 14 and 28 will receive the Fallout Classic Collection. That is a bundle with Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics.

Fallout 76 was released in October 2018 for consoles and for PC via Bethesda’s own launcher. The game did not contain any NPCs. So there were no characters in the game with quests and dialogue, something that Fallout is known for. The game received a lot of criticism for that. With the new Wastelanders expansion, Bethesda adds such NPCs and a new storyline. The expansion is free for anyone who already owns the game.
