PayPal will allow US users to pay with cryptocurrencies
PayPal announced Tuesday that it will allow customers in the US to pay with cryptocurrency through the service in the coming months, Reuters reports. It would in any case be about bitcoins, ethereum, bitcoin cash and litecoins.
PayPal previously announced its own crypto exchange and wallet. Cryptocurrencies can be bought and sold through this PayPal service. Now PayPal will start facilitating purchases with cryptocurrencies, without having to exchange them into dollars first.
PayPal CEO Dan Schulman told Reuters that linking cryptocurrencies should become as easy as linking a credit card. The intention is that PayPal customers in the US will soon be able to pay with cryptocurrencies at more than 29 million companies.
Earlier this month, car manufacturer Tesla also announced that it would accept bitcoins as a means of payment. The company invested $1.5 billion in the digital currency. The value of bitcoin has risen sharply in recent months. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency is worth more than 50,000 euros. This is double the price at the beginning of this year.
