PayPal will extend its purchase protection starting next year. Among other things, the time to open a dispute and thus get in touch with the seller has been extended. In addition, the privacy policy will be overhauled this year.

A buyer opens a dispute when he is dissatisfied with a purchase, for example because something is missing or broken. In case of a dispute, he can directly contact the seller to raise the issue and resolve it.

Currently, a buyer has 45 days from payment to open a dispute, but PayPal wants to extend this time. A recent policy update states that buyers now have 180 days to do so. For example, PayPal hopes to offer users more protection. The policy change will take effect on January 29 next year.

Furthermore, the eBay subsidiary takes care of the warranty. For example, it has supplemented the number of categories eligible for a chargeback with customized products, it says. In addition, PayPal is tightening regulations for users who use the service for, for example, financing terrorist activities, allowing the company to take active action against such people.

Finally, PayPal’s privacy policy is being overhauled. One notable change is that users who use a photo of themselves in the mobile apps allow the payment company to use the image to identify other users. In addition, PayPal may use the photo worldwide and royalty-free, among other things. The new privacy policy will come into effect this year, on December 29.
