PayPal ends support for apps for Windows Phone and BlackBerry

PayPal is pulling the plug on its apps for Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Amazon Fire. From June 30, the apps on those mobile platforms can no longer be used. It is still possible to use mobile PayPal via the browser.

PayPal says it will stop supporting the three platforms in order to “deploy all resources to create the best experience”. Although the service doesn’t say so, PayPal is probably referring to the fact that the number of users of the app on Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Amazon Fire devices is small.

The payment service itself speaks about Windows Phone, but it is about the app that also works on Windows 10 Mobile. According to PayPal, BlackBerry users will still be able to send money to contacts with the BBM app.

Between June 3 and June 30, iOS and Android users will also need to upgrade to the latest PayPal app, the company says. Version 6.0 works with Android 4.03 or later and iOS 8.1 or later. PayPal can still be used via the browser on all platforms after June 30.
