Starbreeze Studio has opened a new studio in the United Kingdom. This studio will be working on two new unannounced games that have a similar revenue model to Payday 2. Starbreeze has been in financial trouble in recent years.

The British Starbreeze studio will be working on two IPs, which were recently acquired by Starbreeze. The company does not say what kind of games are involved, but does say that they will use Payday 2’s ‘games as a service’ revenue model. Payday 2 has a lot of DLC which can include both gameplay and new missions. Starbreeze says it wants to open a studio in the United Kingdom, because according to the company there are many good developers here that it wants to retain.

Tancred Dyke-Wells and Lawrence Bishop will take over the management of Starbreeze Studios UK. This pair previously founded Cinder Cone, a company that released Skeleton Crew last year. The pair has also worked on games such as Firewatch, Smoke & Sacrifice, Nintendo Art Academy, Proteus and Battalion Wars.

Starbreeze has regularly been in the news in recent years due to financial problems. For example, in May 2019, the company said it would not be able to survive another year due to cash shortages. The company therefore sold several game licenses and laid off staff. For a while it seemed that Starbreeze would not be able to complete Payday 3 due to the money problems, but after an agreement with Koch Media this was possible. With the opening of the British game studio, Starbreeze’s problems seem to be over for the time being.
