Pathé brings video service to Xbox 360 and tablets
Cinema chain Pathé is going to expand its video-on-demand service to the Xbox 360 and various tablets. The rollout will start in July, with the iPad being the first to gain access to Pathé Thuis. The service allows users to rent movies.
After the service was released on the iPad in July, Samsung tablets and Panasonic smart TVs will follow in September, Pathé CEO Marc Canisius reported to Entertainment Business. Xbox 360 users will have to wait until November to access the video rental service. It is still unclear whether tablets from other brands can also use Pathé Thuis.
Pathé Thuis also makes it possible to buy films in addition to renting. This feature will also be introduced in July and will allow customers to store purchased movies in the cloud. It is still unclear exactly what this will cost.
Pathé Thuis was already available on Samsung televisions in addition to the PC. This concerns the models that can be online via Samsung’s own Smart TV functionality. The cinema chain released its video service late last year.
