LG has signed a deal with Microsoft to use several of the software company’s patents. LG would like to use the patents in devices that run on Chrome OS. However, the manufacturer has not yet announced this.

Because of the license deal allowed Using LG patents from Microsoft. The deal applies to devices that run on Google’s Android operating system, as well as Chrome OS. The deal hints that LG plans to release devices that run on Chrome OS, but the manufacturer hasn’t announced plans yet.

Microsoft has agreements with most major Android manufacturers to use some of its patents. For example, the Redmond-based company receives money from HTC, Samsung and Acer for every Android device sold. There has never been talk of a deal that also applies to Chrome OS.

Samsung has, in collaboration with Google, released laptops that run on Chrome OS. Acer also came with Chrome OS notebooks. It is possible that LG also has these so-called ChromeBooks in the pipeline. The use of Chrome OS on smartphones and tablets seems unlikely.

The only major Android manufacturer that does not yet have a patent deal with Microsoft is Motorola. The company is unlikely to strike a deal as it is expected to be acquired by Google. Motorola has already been found guilty of infringing a Microsoft patent.
