Password manager test feature to change password automatically
Password Manager Dashlane has announced a new service that allows users to automatically change their passwords for certain services. The Password Changer is still in the testing phase, but more than fifty sites are said to support the feature.
Dashlane recently acquired PassOmatic. This start-up has developed technology that can automatically change passwords, Dashlane reports. Changing can be done in two ways. For example, the user has the option to manually update all passwords with a mouse click, unless two-factor authentication is enabled for a website. A pop-up would then appear in which an additional code or security question must be answered, The Verge writes.
In addition, it will soon be possible to set a time interval. The user can then choose to have his passwords changed every thirty days, for example. It’s unclear when that feature will be introduced. Dashlane claims that the changes are synced securely.
The beta version of the service is said to support more than 50 sites. Among them would be some large internet companies, such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, PayPal and Twitter. However, Dashlane claims that the number of compatible sites will grow rapidly and eventually hundreds of websites should be supported. The beta of the service, available in a free and paid version, is only available for PC and Mac. Mobile versions should follow soon.
