The parent company of Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar, Take-Two, has registered an American brand name for “City Stories.” It is not known whether the request can be related to a new title in the GTA series, or whether it is just a precaution.

The brand name was assigned last Monday by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories are trademarked as related products. It’s unknown why Take Two applied for the brand name, but it may have something to do with a new, unannounced GTA series bundle or a game for next-gen consoles Rockstar is currently working on.

However, it is also possible that the registration is only a proactive measure, for example, the registration of a brand name for the Bully series in November 2013 has not spawned a new game to date. Rockstar is still busy with GTA V at the moment; last week it released a major update to the online multiplayer that gives players access to a number of new luxury apartments and five vehicles, among other things. There will also be an update sometime in the spring that brings ‘heists’ to the online multiplayer of GTA V.
