Parent company of THQ Nordic takes over studio behind Metro games
The Embracer Group has incorporated eight studios through its subsidiaries. These include 4A Games, the creator of the games in the Metro series, such as Metro 2033 and Metro Exodus. The studio is now part of Saber Interactive.
The Embracer Group announces the series of acquisitions with the presentation of its quarterly results. The company will pay $ 45 million in cash and stock to acquire 4A Games, which could go up to $ 80 million if certain goals are met over the next five years. There were already strong links between 4A Games and the Embracer Group. The Metro games were published by Deep Silver, which is also a subsidiary of the games company.
4A Games has studios in Malta and Ukraine and more than 150 employees. After the acquisition, both studios and all employees will fall under Saber Interactive, which is a subsidiary of the Embracer Group. The engine with which the Metro games are made will also come into the hands of the concern. 4A Games is currently working on a new game, which is not part of the Metro series.
In addition to 4A Games, the Embracer Group is acquiring seven other studios through its subsidiaries. There are no big names among them. These are Pow Wow, Palindrome Interactive, Rare Earth Games, Vermila Studios, Deca Games, New World Interactive and Sola Media. Some of those studios make indie games and mobile free-to-play games.
The Swedish Embracer Group was previously called THQ Nordic AB. The group consists of five subsidiaries: THQ Nordic GMBH, Koch Media / Deep Silver, Coffee Stain Studios, Amplifier Game Invest and Saber Interactive. These brands include more than 160 studios.
