Panasonic unveils high-end HZ2000 OLED TV

Panasonic unveiled the HZ2000 at CES. This 4k OLED TV will be the successor to the current GZ2004 and should be released this year. According to the company, the TV achieves a significantly higher brightness, but lacks an HDMI 2.1 connection.

According to Panasonic, the HZ2000 is equipped with a specially tuned panel that is able to achieve a peak brightness that is ‘twenty percent higher than that of conventional OLED TVs’. The manufacturer does not mention a specific value or against which TVs that statement of twenty percent would apply. Just like the GZ2004, the panel has been modified in hardware, so that it is easier to control and can achieve a higher brightness. According to Panasonic, some improvements have also been made in terms of calibration options.

According to FlatpanelsHD, the television does not have an HDMI 2.1 connection, but Panasonic has indicated that eARC and allm are present. Panasonic states that the HZ2000 is the world’s first television with the combination of Dolby Vision IQ, the movie maker mode, Dolby Vision, hdr10+ and hlg photo.

Dolby Vision IQ can be regarded as an extension of Dolby Vision; for content played with this HDR standard, Dolby Vision IQ should ensure that the picture quality is automatically improved, regardless of the type of content or the lighting conditions. It is therefore reasonably comparable to Panasonic’s own Intelligent Sensing, a function that also responds to the light conditions in the room and adjusts the image accordingly.

Furthermore, the HZ2000 has upward-facing, built-in speakers for Dolby Atmos and the television has the HCX Pro chip on board. According to Panasonic, this is Panasonic’s most advanced processor for televisions to date, which is able to very quickly analyze and optimize the color, contrast and brightness of the displayed content, partly on the basis of a dynamic lookup table. The platform on which the television runs, My Home Screen, has been updated to version 5.0, which also includes support for Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.
