Since Monday, problems with Panasonic’s servers have prevented applications such as Netflix and YouTube from working on a number of the brand’s smart TVs. Panasonic has not yet provided an answer regarding the reason for the problems.

Users on GoT indicate that they are still connected to the internet, and are also able to use the browser. However, when an application such as Netflix is opened, a message appears on the TV asking to connect to the Internet. In other cases, an error message will appear. Tweaker ‘Alaethem’ indicates on the forum: “The apps don’t work here either. Error message: The connection with the server is not OK (006).” When the internet connection is checked on a device, for example with the built-in test function, it turns out that the problem does not lie there. On Twitter, users from other countries report the same problems experience with Panasonic’s servers.

The problems occur with the Panasonic CX680 and the CX700, among others, but are not limited to them. Any devices connecting to the applications through Panasonic’s servers may be affected. This is because Panasonic Smart TVs are required to contact Panasonic first when an application is launched.

A Panasonic spokesperson said the company is aware of the ongoing issue and is investigating. The spokesperson is not yet able to answer questions about how long the problem can continue and what the exact problem is. He also does not know whether it only concerns televisions from the 2015 series.

On GoT, users have gone back to using, for example, a Chromecast or a connected console and are also recommending this to other victims.

Update 9/3: According to Panasonic, this concerns the models from the years 2014, 2015, and 2016. The models from this last year are not yet available in the Benelux. The problem with the servers has now been solved, but the cause of the problems is still unknown.
