Panasonic S1H camera with 6k film function will be released in September for 3999 euros

Panasonic has revealed all the details about its S1H system camera. Like the other models, the new device in the S1 series has a full-frame sensor, but is aimed at filmmakers. The S1H films a maximum of 6k resolution with 24 fps.

Filming in the 6k resolution is only possible with an aspect ratio of 3:2. However, there is also an option to film with 5.9k resolution at 30fps in 16:9 ratio. At the 4k resolution, the maximum frame rate is 60fps. In addition, Panasonic offers users a choice of many other aspect ratios, resolutions and frame rates. For example, there is also support for a 4:3 ratio, for recordings with anamorphic lenses. Files are captured with 4:2:2 sampling at a 10bit color depth.

Panasonic already announced the development of the camera in May, but has now revealed all the details. Like the S1, the device uses a 24-megapixel sensor of the full-frame format, but this time there is an anti-alias filter in front of it to prevent moiré effects. The camera has image stabilization in the housing, which can also work together with the stabilization in Panasonic lenses. The L-mount is the same as that of the other S1 cameras.

The Panasonic Lumix S1H is slightly larger than the S1 and S1R variants intended for photography. Panasonic has equipped the housing with a fan to keep the sensor cool during long movie recordings. The screen at the back can be tilted and has 2.33 million pixels. The electronic viewfinder is similar to that in the S1 and S1R.

Panasonic will release the Lumix S1H in mid-September for a suggested retail price of 3999 euros. The Japanese camera manufacturer also comes with a new Lumix S Pro 24-70mm f/2.8 lens; that will be released at the end of September for 2499 euros. Panasonic has put several short films on YouTube that were made with the new camera.
