Panasonic releases Windows app to use system cameras as webcams
Panasonic has released Windows software called Lumix Tether for Streaming. This allows users of a number of system cameras to use their devices relatively easily as webcams.
Lumix Tether for Streaming is a beta version and is therefore still under development. With the new software, Panasonic is building on the existing Lumix Tether software, which already makes it possible to connect cameras wired to a computer to, for example, be able to view photos taken immediately on the monitor or to see a camera image for taking pictures. photos or videos.
With the existing Lumix Tether software, an interface is also displayed and, for example, the square for displaying the focus area is also visible. These graphical items are undesirable when the images are used for video calling sessions. In the new Lumix Tether for Streaming software, a live view mode has therefore been added without such disturbing elements, so that the video images are suitable for capturing with other software, such as Open Broadcaster Software.
The new software only works in combination with the G9, GH5 and GH5s and the S1, S1R and S1H; the first three devices are MFT cameras and the three S1 cameras are devices with a full-frame sensor.
Fujifilm and Canon previously released such software. This kind of software makes it easier to use the image from a camera for video streams, because most computers can’t just use the video signal from a camera connected via USB or HDMI. Separate software is often required for this.
