Panasonic introduces TV with Ultra HD premium certificate
Panasonic has unveiled its TV line for 2016. At the top of the product list is the DXW904 with ultra hd premium certificate, which also offers a brightness of 1000cd/m2. Panasonic will stop with curved TVs and announce no new OLED TV, but will continue with 3D.
Panasonic briefly showed a glimpse of its new flagship model at CES in early January, but has now announced its entire TV offering for 2016. The DXW904 is available in 65″ and 58″ versions and is the only model to meet the UHD Alliance’s ‘ultra hd premium’ specification. The TV offers local dimming in combination with a maximum brightness of 1000cd/m2 for the HDR display. The uhdtv also offers support for rec.2020.
The DX804 comes in a 58″ and 50″ format. This uhd model also offers support for HDR playback and also distinguishes itself with its speakers: two tweeters, four midrange speakers and six woofers are present. Furthermore, Panasonic has opted for a flexible design in which the feet can be attached to the TV in different ways and a cover can hide the connections on the back.
The DXW784, the DX730 and the DX650 are also UHDTVs, the first two of which support HDR playback and the latter does not. All models in the DX line run Firefox OS. According to the manufacturer, there will be an update for this software later this year that makes it easier to discover new apps and save them on the TV.
Panasonic has not announced a new OLED TV and the only model in its line-up remains the TX-65CZW954 announced at IFA. Last year, the manufacturer also had a curved television in its range, but Panasonic stops that because that model did not sell well. However, the company continues to support 3d, where, for example, TP Vision and Samsung have stopped.
