Panasonic announced its first curved television on Monday. The CR850 is a UHDTV with support for HDR playback, which will be available in 55″ and 65″ formats. The devices run on a Firefox OS based smart TV platform.

At an event in Frankfurt, Panasonic announced its European TV line for 2015. In addition to the curved CR850 models, the high-end is served by the flat CX800 TVs, which will be available in 40-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes. Both lines are classified by Panasonic under the marketing designation ‘4K Pro’. With this, the manufacturer wants to indicate that in addition to the UHD resolution, other new technologies are also supported, such as HDR display, adaptive backlight dimming and the use of panels that can display 98 percent of the color space embraced by DCI.

The 2015 uhd models run at Panasonic on my Home Screen 2.0, which is based on Firefox OS. The interface revolves around various decks, such as the Live TV Deck, the Apps Deck and the Devices Deck. The platform includes an extensive search and favorites function. My Home Screen 2.0 is available on the models of the CR850, CR730, CX800, CX750, CX700 and CX680 lines.

It is not yet known what the new TVs will cost and when exactly they will be for sale in the Benelux.
