Photos and specifications of the Panasonic DMC-G7 system camera have appeared on the internet. Like the Panasonic G6, the micro four thirds device would have a 16-megapixel sensor, but could film in 4K. The housing would also have been renewed.

The G7 had already appeared on the site of the Wi-Fi Alliance, which certifies Wi-Fi devices; the page has since been removed. That indicates that the G7, just like the G6, has WiFi functionality again. Now more extensive specifications and images have been leaked on Digicame-info, a Japanese site that often manages to obtain information about cameras at an early stage. Like the G6, the G7 would have a 16-megapixel digital live mos sensor. Panasonic has updated the Venus Engine image processor so that the camera can now shoot 4k images at 30fps or 24fps. The manufacturer has also added a 360-degree panorama feature. The G6 could also shoot panoramas, but the maximum angle of view remained more limited. The minimum shutter speed of the camera is 1/16000.

Compared to the G6, the body has been given some sharper angles; the recess for the fingers on the handle seems to be a bit stronger. The buttons on the housing have been modified. The images show that the G7 has an extra rotary wheel on the left, which can probably be used to set the drive mode. On the right side, the ‘Intelligent Auto’ button has been replaced by a function button. Around the shutter button is now a rotary wheel, which was placed vertically on the G6, which can probably be used to zoom in. On the back, mainly buttons have been moved and some buttons have been provided with a new lettering. The body would be available in silver or black.

Digicame reports that the G7, like the more expensive GH4, would have DFD autofocus, a form of contrast detection that should suffer less from focus hunting, i.e. being able to find focus in some circumstances. It is not clear how many autofocus points the G7 has. The resolution of the built-in OLED EVF has been increased to 2.36 million subpixels compared to the G6, the same number as with the GH4. The electronic viewfinder of the G6 had to make do with 1.44 million subpixels. The tilting LCD screen still has 1.04 million sub-pixels.

According to Digicame, Panasonic will soon be announcing the G7, along with the GX8 and FZ300, which were also featured on the Wi-Fi Alliance’s site. It is not yet known at what price the model will appear in the store.
