Owner PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Buys Subnautica Creator
The company behind the popular battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Krafton has announced that it is buying the studio responsible for Subnautica. Indie studio Unknown Worlds Entertainment becomes part of Krafton’s growing portfolio.
The Korean Krafton, formerly known as BlueHole, writes in an announcement that it is acquiring Unknown Worlds for an undisclosed amount. Unknown Worlds will continue to operate as an independent studio, releasing updates to its existing titles. The studio is also working on a new project that will receive early access in 2022.
Unknown Worlds was founded in 2001 and released Natural Selection and Zen of Sudoku, among others. The studio gained great fame with survival game Subnautica in 2018. In the game, players have to survive in an underwater world. The sequel was released on May 14 this year: Subnautica: Below Zero
