OWC introduces Thunderbolt 4 hub with three additional Thunderbolt connections

OWC has announced a Thunderbolt 4 hub. The hub uses a single Thunderbolt 4 connector and adds three additional Thunderbolt connectors and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector. It appears to be the first Thunderbolt 4 hub on the market. The OWC hub in question uses a single Thunderbolt 4 connector that connects to the host system. On the other side are three Thunderbolt connectors that allow users to connect additional Thunderbolt devices such as monitors, external storage media and external video cards, and the three additional connectors each support a daisy chain of multiple Thunderbolt devices, which can be disconnected separately without disrupt the other chains. The new Thunderbolt 4 standard allows such hubs with up to four Thunderbolt connectors. The OWC hub supports three daisy chains of Thunderbolt devices. Image via OWC The hub also features a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connector. The whole is supplied with power via a DC connector. The hub can deliver up to 60W of power to the host and 15W to the three additional Thunderbolt 4 connections. OWC also does not report which controller the hub is using. Tom’s Hardware speculates that it is a JHL8440 from Intel, as this is the only Thunderbolt 4 controller that the company produces for accessory makers.The OWC Thunderbolt 4 hub is currently available for pre-order from the company’s website. The hub costs USD 149 there, which when converted and with VAT amounts to about 153.90 euros. The product will be shipped at the end of October.
