Overwatch and Diablo may get their own animated series

There may be animated series on the way based on the Diablo games and Overwatch. That can be deduced from the LinkedIn page of a director of Activision Blizzard Studios, the film and television studio of the game publisher.

On the page, director Nick van Dyk says he is the executive producer of Diablo. Diablo is described here as a “TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s intellectual property.” According to the information on Van Dyk’s profile page, it will be an anime-style series and the show is in pre-production at Netflix.

In addition, it can be read that Van Dyk has developed and sold an animation series based on the game Overwatch together with a partner. With this possible series, he makes no mention of Netflix or another party that is responsible for the distribution or production or what style the series will have.

Information about a possible release is missing, as with the notification about the Diablo series. It is unknown when Van Dyk put this information on his profile page and to what extent the data is still current and correct.

It is not the first time that information about these productions has come out. In 2018, Uber Gizmo already announced the arrival of a Diablo series on Netflix and Jeff Kaplan, the director of Activision Blizzard, hinted in an interview last year about the possibility of more content around Overwatch, such as movies or series.

Van Dyk’s page also states that he has developed a “development strategy” for a Call of Duty film and television universe. Two years ago, information came out from sources that Activision Blizzard Studios would be negotiating to hire a director for a Call of Duty movie. This director would be Stefano Sollima. Recently, however, in a conversation with an Italian website Badtaste, he confirmed that he is involved in this project and is partly at the origin of the script, but that this project is standing still and no longer seems to be a priority for Activision.
