Google says there are more than 110 million monthly active devices that run Android TV or its derivative Google TV as its operating system. The platform has grown significantly in the past year. Google TV is an Android TV based OS with a different interface.

A Google spokesperson told 9to5Google that Android TV and Google TV combined have more than 110 million monthly active devices, though the company won’t specify between the two. In May this year, the company announced at Google I/O that the number had passed 80 million. This means that in more than half a year there has been a growth of 30 million devices.

The growth can probably be explained in large part by the introduction of the Chromecast with Google TV. Television manufacturers who have been using Android TV for years will also have contributed, such as Philips, Sony. Hisense and TCL. The latter recently said it is one of Google’s largest TV partners, selling more than 10 million devices each year with Google TV and Android TV. According to Google, seven of the top ten smart TV manufacturers use its platform.

The increase in the number of devices with these operating systems is also related to a significant growth in the number of partners opting for the operating system. That number would now be more than 250 worldwide. The lion’s share of these are pay-TV providers; 170 of these now use Android TV.
