Original Oculus Quest will soon receive support for Air Link

Facebook will soon be releasing Air Link support for the original Oculus Quest VR headset. The Quest headsets also get a more extensive Infinite Office mode that should make multitasking with different apps easier.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces Air Link support in a short teaser on Facebook. This feature allows Quest users to connect their VR headset to their computer via WiFi. This allows users to play VR games for PC on their Quest headset, even if they are not available in the Oculus Store.

Air Link was introduced earlier this year for the Oculus Quest 2. The company did not disclose whether the feature would be available for the original Oculus Quest from 2019, but Zuckerberg has now confirmed this.

Facebook reported at the launch that Air Link is only a good option if there is a strong Wi-Fi signal, with play taking place about six meters from the router. In less optimal Wi-Fi conditions, Facebook recommended using the wired Link function, which works via USB-C.

In the same Facebook post, Zuckerberg shows a video of an improved Infinite Office mode. This allows users to work in a virtual office. In the upcoming V30 update, users will be able to open multiple apps side by side; Zuckerberg’s video shows a digital environment in which the Oculus Browser, Oculus Store, and Oculus TV are used simultaneously. In the Infinite Office mode, users could already open multiple browser windows, but that did not apply to other functions, UploadVR also writes. Facebook reportedly tested support for Android apps on its Quest headsets earlier this year, but Zuckerberg makes no mention in his Facebook post.
