Ori and the Will of the Wisps renders internally at 6k resolution on Xbox Series X
Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be internally rendered in 6k resolution on the upcoming Xbox Series X console, then scaled back to 4k by supersampling . That should further improve image quality.
Thomas Mahler, game director of Moon Studios, speaks on the Resetera forum about a mode on Series X where the game is rendered internally at 6k. “I don’t think there will be anything comparable in terms of image quality for now,” he says. He thus suggests that this mode in any case significantly increases the graphic quality compared to other modes. Mahler adds a comment , describing the image quality through this in this 6k mode as ‘obscene, with hdr and filters on top’.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps, like its predecessor Ori and the Blind Forest, is a side-scrolling platformer that, while graphically pleasing, will not push the Series X’s hardware to the limit. That probably makes it possible to run the game internally at the higher 6k resolution. This is also the case with another, graphically less demanding game like The Touryst. The developer previously informed Wccftech that their game will be rendered in 6k on the Series X and in 4k on the Series S, after which the resolution will be scaled down.
It is not yet clear which modes Ori and the Will of the Wisps will support on the Series X, but it has been known for some time that the game can be played on this console in 4k and 120fps . The 6k mode will probably be paired with 60 instead of 120fps, although Mahler did not clarify that further. By the way, Ori and the Will of the Wisps on the Xbox One X already runs in 4k resolution with 60fps, although there were complaints about performance problems and frame drops after the release in March.
