Organization cancels photokina 2019 and postpones photography fair until May 2020
The next edition of photokina, which was scheduled for May 2019, will be postponed by one year to May 2020. Koelnmesse, organizer of the photography fair in Cologne, Germany, has announced this.
Koelnmesse and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie, a major sponsor of the event, have jointly decided not to organize a photokina in 2019. The news comes as no surprise. After all, the previous edition of the photography fair only dates back to September. In order to stay out of the water of the IFA, the major electronics fair in Berlin that also takes place in September, it was decided to organize photokina in May from 2019 onwards. From then on, the fair would become annual instead of biennial. Those plans now turn out to have been a bit too ambitious.
Or as the organization puts it in the press release itself: “By postponing the start of the annual photokina frequency by one year, we want to give all participants the opportunity to further develop their new concepts and to reach new target groups among exhibitors and visitors. to drill”.
Photokina 2018, in September, attracted some 180,000 visitors from 127 countries. The next edition of the fair will now take place from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 May 2020.
