OPTA: providers must adjust general terms and conditions
Telecom watchdog OPTA has warned ten providers that they must adjust their general terms and conditions. Since 1 July, a maximum cancellation period of one month applies, but the providers have not yet stated this in the conditions.
In a letter warns OPTA that the conditions of the ten providers are in conflict with new legislation. Since this summer, a maximum notice period of one month applies to internet subscriptions after the first contract term has expired. Providers should include this in their terms and conditions. This concerns ISPs, but also other service providers, such as telecom companies.
According to OPTA, a sample of thirty providers shows that not all providers have adjusted their general terms and conditions. The regulator has not disclosed any names, but did announced to have warned these ISPs. OPTA also immediately announced that it would conduct another investigation in November. If a provider has not yet adjusted its conditions, OPTA can impose a fine of up to 450,000 euros.
