The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO will start next year with the elimination of adapters from the boxes of telephones. That’s what the manufacturer said. It is unknown if sister brand OnePlus will follow that line.

The adapters will disappear from the box from next year on various models, says an OPPO CEO in a group interview with Android Police. It is unknown which models are involved. The manufacturer does not mention the reason that the adapter disappears. Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi and Google, among others, already preceded OPPO. Fairphone has not supplied an adapter for much longer.

They all cited the reduction of e-waste as the reason, although the benefit is limited. Smartphone makers probably find it attractive that users have to buy a separate adapter with their phone and therefore have to spend extra money to charge it.

OPPO has so far not omitted the adapters, as it uses its own fast charging technology that it calls SuperVOOC. Such adapters are difficult to obtain, so the included ensures that users can certainly charge the phone at the highest speed. OPPO wants the adapters to be available at stores where the phones are also for sale. The phones are also compatible with fast charging via USB Power Delivery. It is unknown whether OnePlus will follow OPPO’s move.
