OPPO releases foldable Find N smartphone in China for 1073 euros converted
The Chinese smartphone brand OPPO has released its first foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N. The brand has been working on the phone for four years. The device will be available for sale in China from December 23, starting at 1073 euros. There is a screen on both the inside and the outside.
The OPPO Find N features a 7.1″ screen on the inside and a 5.49″ screen on the outside of the fold. When unfolded, the screen has an almost square aspect ratio of 8.4:9. The screen on the outside has an aspect ratio of 18:9. The hinge system is designed in such a way that the two sides of the screen fold flat on top of each other with no visible gaps. The screen can also remain extended at any angle between 50 and 120 degrees. OPPO promises software functions that make it useful to partially open the screen.
The inner screen is provided with a thin glass layer of 0.03 mm thick, so that it can bend. With normal smartphones, the glass layer is 0.6 mm thick, says OPPO in a press release. That ltpo-oled screen has a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz with a peak brightness of 1000cd/m². The screen on the outside has the same peak brightness.
OPPO has added some software features, such as gesture control, to make multitasking work better. Swiping two fingers down the center of the screen can split the screen in two in certain apps, and a full window can be turned into a floating window with a four-finger pinch.
The Find N features a camera island with three cameras. A 50Mp main camera with a Sony IMX 766 sensor, a 16Mp ultra wide angle lens and a 13Mp telephoto lens. Both the inner and outer screens are also equipped with a selfie camera. This is located at the top left of the inner screen.
The hinge system can be used while taking photos and videos to place the phone at any angle of 50-120 degrees and serve as a kind of tripod. In addition, hand gestures can be used to remotely start the camera recording. If the main camera is used when the screen is fully open, both screens will show a preview of what the camera is seeing, so that the person being photographed will also see what is being seen.
Internally, the Find N is equipped with a Snapdragon 888-soc, and up to 12GB Lpddr5 memory and 512GB UFC 3.1 storage. The device has a 4500mAh battery that works with the 33W fast charger from OPPO and the Supervooc Flash Charge technology. The device can also be charged wirelessly with 15W and offers 10W reverse wireless charging. The fingerprint sensor in the Find N is located under the power button on the side. The Find N will be available in black, white and purple. All three devices have a glass back.
There has been talk of a foldable smartphone from OPPO since 2018. The brand has developed six prototypes in the past four years for the Find N. The device will initially only be released in China and will cost 7699 yuan for the 8GB 256GB model and 8999 yuan for the 12GB 512GB model. That is converted 1073 euros for the first model and 1255 euros for the second.
