Oppo has announced two new smartphones in the Reno series in London, the Reno 2 and a somewhat cheaper variant, the Reno 2 Z. The devices have impressive possibilities on paper, comparable to the most expensive high-end smartphones, while the price for the Reno 2 is still below 500 euros.

The Reno 2 is equipped with a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2,400 by 1,080 pixels. There is no notch (notch) in it, because the 16-megapixel selfiecamera is not at the front but slides out at the top. This is a so-called ‘shark fin’ popup camera, as was already seen on the original Reno. The screen has an aspect ratio of 20: 9 and covers 93 percent of the front of the device.

The Reno 2 has a Snapdragon 7150 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity. At the rear there are four cameras, including a 48 megapixel primary camera with optical and electronic image stabilization. A 13 megapixel camera is there to be able to zoom in 2x optically. Up to 5x ‘Hybrid Zoom’ is also possible, although the quality will be somewhat less. There is also an 8 megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens and a 2 megapixel camera for a depth of field effect on portrait photos, for example.

The battery of the Reno 2 has a capacity of 4,000 mAh and supports fast charging through the VOOC 3.0 technology. The latter ensures that the battery can be charged up to 50 percent within half an hour.

The Reno 2 runs on ColorOS 6.1, which is based on Android 9.0, and is furthermore equipped with, among other things, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, usb-c, nfc and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Reno 2 Z
The Reno 2 Z is the cheaper brother of the Reno 2 and is therefore different on a few points. There is no Snapdragon processor, but a Mediatek MTK P90. In addition, the screen has a slightly lower resolution (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19.5 x 9. The popup camera is also a rectangular block instead of the ‘shark fin’. Furthermore, there are no differences, except that the Reno 2 Z will be available in the colors Sky White and Luminous Black, where this is with the Reno 2 Ocean Blue and Luminous Black.

Price and availability
The OPPO Reno2 is available from October 18 for 499 euros. The Reno2 Z is also in stores from October 18 and will cost 349 euros.

In addition to the new smartphones, OPPO also announced a new wireless headset with noise-canceling, the Enco Q1. This is available from the beginning of November and costs 129 euros.
