Oppo introduces 125W fast charger and 65W wireless charger

Oppo has announced a series of new chargers for smartphones, including a fast charger with a power of 125W. This means that a battery with a capacity of 4000mAh can be fully charged in 20 minutes, the company claims. Oppo also introduces a wireless 65W charger.

The fastest Oppo charger to date was the 65W SuperVOOC 2.0, which could fully charge a 4000mAh battery in 30 minutes. The new 125W Flash Charge does that in 20 minutes and in 5 minutes a 4000mAh battery is charged to 41 percent of its capacity, the claim states. The charger includes a USB type-c interface and delivers 125W through the Programmable Power Supply function that the USB-IF Association added to the USB PD 3.0 standard in 2017. In addition, the charger is compatible with fast charging according to the 65W PD and 35W QC functions.

Oppo further reports the presence of two separate 6C cells in the charger with three dc-dc converters that would convert the 20V / 6.25A input at 98 percent efficiency. The charger contains ten temperature sensors for the protection of charging sessions. The 125W charger is not much bigger than its 65W predecessor, according to Oppo.

In addition to the 125W fast charger, Oppo is also introducing a 65W wireless charger in the AirVOOC line, a small 50W charger called mini SuperVOOC and a compact 110W fast charger. The 65W wireless charger is a Qi-supported model with two coils that operate in parallel and can fully charge a 4000mAh battery in half an hour.

The 50W mini quick charger has a thickness of 1.05 cm and a weight of 60 grams and is intended for easy portability. The size of the charger can be limited as it is based on gallium nitride. Chargers based on GaN are more efficient and convert less energy into heat. The higher costs are offset by the fact that fewer components are required. During the CES fair in early 2020, more manufacturers showed GaN chargers. The 50W charger is compatible with Oppo’s proprietary VOOC protocols and 27W and 50W charging via USB’s Power Delivery protocol. Oppo is also releasing a 110W mini fast charger, with a size of 35.76cm³, comparable to a regular 18W charger.
