OPPO extends update policy of Find X3 smartphones by one year

OPPO will provide its Find X3-series smartphones with security updates for three years instead of the previously promised two years. The manufacturer is investigating whether it is possible to extend this to four years.

Until now, OPPO’s Find X3 devices fell under the manufacturer’s general update policy. This requires that smartphones with ColorOS receive at least two new Android versions after their release and are provided with security patches for at least two years.

The new commitment is only about security updates and not about version upgrades. The Find X3 devices were released in March this year and come with ColorOS 11, which is based on Android 11. The devices will therefore receive at least Android 13 and security updates until March 2024.

More and more manufacturers are giving Android smartphones longer updates, although that is often limited to the most expensive models. Samsung guarantees three Android upgrades and four years of security updates for the new models in the Galaxy A series for the first time this year. OPPO announced models in its own A-series in April, which will receive two upgrades and two years of updates.
