Oppo announces Reno phone with 5x zoom and angled pop-up front camera
Oppo has announced the first two smartphones in the new Reno series in Shanghai. These are the Reno 10X Zoom Edition and the Reno Standard Edition. Both devices have an oblique pop-up front camera, but only the first model has a periscopic camera lens.
Both devices have the same design with minimal screen edges without notches or a hole in the screen for the front camera. Instead, the front camera sits in a sloping element that slides out of the housing at the top of the phones. This mechanism should last at least five years, assuming the front camera is extended 100 times a day. The Oppo F11 Pro also has an extendable camera, although it comes straight from the top edge. Both Oppo Reno smartphones are equipped with OLED screens, although the Reno 10X Zoom Edition can be regarded as the flagship that is the only one that has the periscopic multi-lens setup to enable 5x optical zoom. That 10x zoom from the name is digital.
The Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition has on the back the Sony IMX586 48-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.7, the periscopic 13-megapixel camera with optical stabilization and an 8-megapixel copy with a field of view of 120 degrees. The smartphone has a Snapdragon 855, a 6.6-inch screen that takes up 93.1 percent of the surface and a fingerprint scanner behind the screen. Videos can be recorded in 4k resolution at 60fps and the battery has a capacity of 4065mAh.
The cheaper Oppo Reno Standard Edition has a mid-range Snapdragon 710 as a soc and a smaller screen with a diagonal of 6.4 “. This low-positioned phone lacks the 10x zoom camera, but has the same 48-megapixel camera, even though it has the Standard Edition does not have optical stabilization. This phone also has to do without the wide-angle camera; instead, a 5-megapixel one is integrated. You can also record videos in 4k, but instead of 60fps the limit is 30fps. Furthermore, the three microphones are missing. of the more expensive variant, the battery has a lower capacity with 3765mAh and an option to expand the storage space with a micro-SD card has also been omitted in this version.
Both devices are coming to Europe; On April 24, Oppo is organizing an event in Zurich, Switzerland, where the European prices are expected to be announced. Then there will probably also be more information about the briefly mentioned 5g variant of the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition.
The top model comes in variants with 6GB/128GB, 6GB/256GB, 8GB/256GB for respectively 528, 594 and 633 euros. The standard edition comes in the same three variants in terms of working and storage memory, with prices of 396, 435 and 475 euros.
