Opera releases Web3 crypto browser for Windows, Mac and Android
The company behind web browser Opera has announced a Web3 browser with integrated crypto wallet, Crypto Browser Project. The beta version of the browser is available for Windows, macOS and Android. The browser is functionally little different from the standard Opera browser.
The browser is based on Web3, and uses Chromium, just like Opera itself. The Crypto Browser Project has a homepage, or ‘Crypto Corner’ where users get the latest blockchain news, as well as information about upcoming airdrops, events, NFTs, educational content, podcasts, videos and crypto prices.
In addition, the browser features an integrated crypto wallet that allows the user to access their own coins and log in to certain decentralized apps, without having to install additional extensions. Users can also select a different wallet in the browser, via a wallet selector tool. The browser also features a secure clipboard that allows users to copy-paste safely. This is important if users want to share their wallet numbers. Opera has been testing that feature since December and should also come to Opera 83.
The browser does not differ much from the standard Opera browser except in name and in terms of home page, but it does have crypto coins at its core. Opera began testing an ethereum wallet feature on Android in 2018, which later came to desktop as well. The ethereum wallet was added to Opera in late 2018. Opera 60 got support for Web3 in 2019 and native support for Web 3 dApps, or decentralized apps, something that is now also in this new browser. Users can access Web3 websites and dApps from the address bar with the new app.
The Crypto Browser Project also includes all of Opera’s other standard features. For example, it is not necessary to log in to use the VPN, and the browser is standard equipped with an ad blocker and tracker blocker. The browser is separate from Opera, and the regular Opera browser also retains support for Web3 and its own crypto wallet. The Crypto Browser Project is currently in beta, but should be released in the coming months, including support for Layer 2, Polygon, Solana, Near, Handshake, and Cosmos.
