Opera has released an update for its mobile browser with the ability to block ads. The update has been released for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Opera claims that users save data by blocking the ads.

The update for Opera Mini has appeared in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Store. To activate the feature, users must check the settings to save data. Other options there include compressing video and images. Opera can do that by passing traffic through its own proxy servers. The desktop version of Opera has the feature built in for some time.

Opera claims to have taken measurements that show that its browser on Android is faster and saves data compared to Chrome and Adblock Browser, among others. Opera’s browser for Android has also received support for multi-window in Android N and support for push notifications from websites.

It is unknown how many users have the Opera browsers, but in the Play Store for Android, the software has over a hundred million downloads. This is not visible in the download stores for other platforms.
