Opera is working on clipboard protection for browser version 84
Opera is working on a security feature for the Opera browser that will protect information stored in the clipboard against modification by third-party applications. The feature, Paste protection, is currently being tested in browser developer update 84.0.4274.0.
The development team behind the Opera browser writes on a blog page that “sensitive data” on the clipboard will be “temporarily” checked for changes. According to Opera, the monitoring stops as soon as the ‘sensitive data’ is pasted. If the stored data is changed by a third-party application, a warning message will appear in the browser.
It is not clear what criteria Opera uses to designate data as ‘sensitive’. BleepingComputer tried out the feature and noted that IBAN numbers and crypto wallet addresses could activate the feature. Credit card numbers, long passwords and e-mail addresses did not appear as yet.
