Opera integrates ChatGPT into sidebar to summarize web page content
Opera has made available a new feature that summarizes web pages using ChatGPT. When users press the ‘Shorten’ button, the chatbot automatically opens in the sidebar and summarizes the page content.
The ‘Shorten’ button should become available in the web browser ‘soon’, an Opera spokesperson told The Verge. Little else is known about the function; It is not yet clear exactly what types of web pages it can be used for. In the demo which shows Opera the summary function is used for a news article, after which the most important news facts are listed in a number of bullet points.
The Opera spokesperson tells The Verge that the company plans to integrate more “popular AI-generated services” into the sidebar in the future, although it is not yet clear what exactly this means.
Recently, many companies are integrating AI features into their services. Microsoft plans to provide Bing and Edge, among others, with ChatGPT functions, although rumors are that the company also wants to integrate the AI technology into its Office services. On Monday, Google responded to ChatGPT with its own AI chatbot, called Bard. Chinese tech giant Alibaba is also working on an AI tool to compete with OpenAI’s bot.
