Opera for Android now also offers a free VPN connection
Opera has provided the latest version of its mobile browser for Android with a free VPN connection. The function has been in the desktop version of Opera for almost three years and was already available as a beta for Android users earlier this year.
The VPN function is standard in Opera for Android version 51, which, according to Opera, will be rolled out via Google Play from Wednesday. According to Opera, the virtual private network gives the user more control and privacy while browsing, especially when using public Wi-Fi networks. The company promises a ‘no-log service’ and says it does not collect data. As in the desktop version, mobile users can set their geographic location to Europe, America, Asia or ‘Optimal’. The VPN connection is secured with 256-bit encryption and can be switched on or off at any time.
Opera iOS users will have to do without the VPN function for the time being. In the past, they could use the Opera VPN app, but that service was discontinued in April last year. The app has also been unavailable since then.
