Open vr platform supports Android
Razer has announced that OSVR, an open platform for virtual reality gaming, in the new version 1.2 is now compatible with Android hardware in addition to support for Windows and Linux. There is also a revamped vr helmet devkit for developers.
In addition to support for the Android platform, OSVR 1.2 makes it possible to communicate directly with external vrpn servers. Also, the Windows installer is said to have been improved and the documentation has been adjusted to facilitate porting VR content based on the Unity and Unreal Engine 4 engines.
Furthermore, the open source VR glasses, which were developed by Leap Motion, have been renewed. The renewed ir-tracking kit makes it possible to measure head movements over 360 degrees. The tracking kit will be available to participants in the OSVR 1.0 and 1.1 program. There is improved recognition of hand movements in the VR glasses, while certain Android devices can also be placed in the helmet. Finally, there is an ultra wide field view kit from the company Wearality. This optical element promises a viewing angle of 150°.
