Only FIFA 22 version of 100 euros entitles to upgrade for new consoles
Console gamers who purchase FIFA 22 for Xbox One or PlayStation 4 can only upgrade to an Xbox Series or Playstation 5 version if they purchase the $100 Ultimate Edition. With FIFA 21, the standard version also had a free upgrade.
In a faq, EA clarifies that only the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 is eligible for dual entitlement. That is, players will have to buy that expensive version if they are still playing on a previous generation console and want to upgrade to the next gen version. The step is striking, because with FIFA 21, EA gave players of all editions a free upgrade to the versions for the new consoles.
FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition costs 100 euros in the PlayStation Store and in the Microsoft Store. The regular version costs 80 euros for the new consoles and there is also a version for the Xbox One and PS4, which costs 70 euros.
It is not possible to buy the 80 euro version and play it on a previous generation console. The $70 version will work on both generations, but playing on an Xbox Series console or PlayStation 5 will be without the next-gen improvements.
FIFA 22 will be released on October 1, and the next-gen version will get HyperMotion technology. For this purpose, EA has recorded the movements of all football players during matches with Xsens suits. With that information as a basis and a machine learning algorithm, animations are calculated in real time. According to EA, this will result in more than four thousand new animations in FIFA 22.
The updates are only coming to Xbox Series consoles, PlayStation 5, and Stadia. The PC version is a ‘last-gen’ version, EA would do that to keep the system requirements low. Also FIFA 21 on PC did not get the improvements of the next-gen version. A Legacy Edition will be released for the Switch. Details about this have not been disclosed, but it is presumably an update of the existing Switch version, without gameplay innovations or graphic improvements.
