OnLive makes service available via Steam

OnLive is partnering with Valve. The streaming service and Steam accounts will be linked so that Steam games can be streamed via OnLive. There are currently twenty Steam games that can be played via OnLive.

A beta test of the OnLive integration appears to be running via Steam. It is unknown when the test will end and the service will be available to every Steam user. OnLive wants to link the subscriptions of the streaming service to those of Steam. Those who have a paid monthly subscription to OnLive can then play the Steam games that are suitable for this via the streaming service. Among the twenty Steam games now available to play through OnLive, games like Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Batman: Arkham Origins, Darksiders II, Dead Island GOTY, Dead Island: Riptide, LEGO The Lord of the Rings, Metro 2033 and Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition.

The game does not have to be installed and the platform on which it is played does not have to meet the system requirements set by the makers of the game. The player’s control input is sent over the Internet to OnLive’s servers, where OnLive returns the resulting image as a stream over the Internet.

A subscription is required to use OnLive. OnLive charges $10 a month for this, which gives players access to a library of 250 games. OnLive hopes to expand that offering with Gajin Entertainment’s games, such as War Thunder. The available Steam games can only be played via OnLive if the player has the games in their Steam library. With the Steam games that have cloud storage, players can access their save games via OnLive.
