Online survival game Rust is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 21. The console version of the game is being developed by a different studio and will provide a modified but faithful experience.

The game will also support cross-play between the Sony and Microsoft consoles, but because the game is not exactly the same as the PC version, it will not be included in the cross-play support. The game will also receive the adjustments and changes of the Windows version, but also its ‘own experiments’.

The console version is in the hands of game studio Double Eleven. The studio has had roles in the development of Minecraft Dungeons, Prison Architect, Crackdown 3 and more. The studio has been working on this version of Rust since 2018. A roadmap of what the updates to this version will look like is yet to follow, the studio says in a blog post about the development.

The console version of Rust was announced in 2019 and was initially planned to be released in 2020, but due to the corona pandemic and the fact that the entire development team had to work from home, the game was delayed.
