Onkyo has announced four new a/v receivers in the segment up to about 400 euros. These are models in the new TX-SRx08 series. The a/v receivers are equipped with HDMI 1.4 connectors for the transmission of 3D content.

The TX-SRx08 series succeeds the TX-SRx07 series. The top model of the four is the TX-SR608, the successor to the popular TX-SR607 model. Like its predecessor, the TX-SR608 has six HDMI inputs, one of which is on the front. By using HDMI 1.4, the a/v receiver is prepared for the connection of 3D Blu-ray players.

This top model is a 7.2-a/v receiver with a power of 160W per channel, 20W more than the TX-SR607. He supports 1080p video upscaling via HDMI using the new Faroudja DCDi Cinema chip. Furthermore, Onkyo has replaced the 192KHz/24bit-Cirrus-Logic-dac with a Burr-Brown one.

In addition to existing support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Onkyo also adds to the TX-SR608 Audyssey DSXsupport and the receiver features a PC input for analog RGB video. The TX-SR608 is the first receiver in the segment to also have a THX Select2 Plusreceived certification. In addition, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD audio are supported.

A simpler model is the TX-SR578. This is a 7.1 a/v receiver, which means that only one bass module can be connected, and is slightly less powerful with 130W per channel. The TX-SR578 also has to do without a PC video input, without Audyssey DSX support and with only four HDMI connectors. The TX-SR578 does have the same Faroudja chip as the TX-SR608, allowing 1080p video upscaling via HDMI, and Burr-Brown DACs.

The TX-SR508 is a 7.1 a/v receiver with 130W per channel, while its predecessor only supported a 5.1 speaker configuration. The TX-SR508 doesn’t have 1080p HDMI upscaling, but it does have Burr-Brown DACs. Onkyo has also added support for Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD audio to this receiver.

The new 5.1 entry-level model is the TX-SR308. Compared to the current TX-SR307, the differences are smaller than with the above models. The number of HDMI connectors has remained the same with three, but these are now of the 1.4 type. Also with this model, Onkyo uses Burr-Brown dacs and there is support for the new audio standards Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. Like the above models, the TX-SR308 features an Onkyo Universal connector to which an iPod dock can be connected.
