OnePlus plans to release cheaper smartphones in the long term. That is what the CEO of the company says in an interview. The company will also continue to release more expensive phones. OnePlus also wants to come up with other product types.

The first phone from OnePlus came on the market six years ago for 269 euros. Since then, the company’s smartphones have become more expensive with each generation. The current smartphone from OnePlus has a starting price of 699 euros. In an interview with Fast Company, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau now says that the company sees that “there is still a large number of consumers in demand for a smartphone with a more suitable price”.

Lau states that this is a ‘very important insight’, which the company ‘takes seriously’ into account. OnePlus also continues to make more expensive smartphones. At the time of writing, OnePlus has not yet announced a cheaper device, although the company will “soon” show a “glimpse” of the new strategy during an announcement for India, Fast Company writes. It is not yet clear when this will take place.

Earlier there were rumors that OnePlus would come with a more affordable device. Pete Lau now seems to have confirmed this. According to previous rumors, the company will launch a OnePlus Z smartphone this year. It will reportedly get a Snapdragon 765, 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage capacity.

The company also says it plans to release a wider range of products. OnePlus currently makes accessories, such as earplugs, in addition to smartphones. Last year, the company also released its first televisions in India. According to Lau, the goal of OnePlus is to create some kind of ecosystem for OnePlus devices. It is not yet clear what kind of products the company wants to release.
