OnePlus will work more closely with OPPO. The brand will continue to exist independently, but the telephone manufacturer is merging even more business units with its sister company. For users, probably little will change.

OnePlus announces the changes on its forum, although the company gives few concrete details. The company refers to previous collaborations that OnePlus and OPPO have entered into. Earlier this year, the phone maker’s R&D department already merged with that of sister company OPPO via OPLUS, the umbrella company of the two makers. “Having seen positive impact impact from that change, we have decided to further integrate with OPPO,” said OnePlus CEO Pete Lau.

Lau says the company is “at a turning point,” but he won’t give details. It is also not clear which business units will merge with OPPO. Lau does say that the OnePlus brand will continue to exist and that it will remain independent of OPPO. The company also says it will continue to release products and communicate with customers through its standard channels.
