OnePlus Teases Folding Phone While OPPO Captures Brand Names
The director of OnePlus has teased the arrival of a foldable phone. A photo shows the hinge of a folding phone. Meanwhile, sister company OPPO is busy recording names for possible foldable phones.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau posted the photos with the text ‘what do you think this is?’ followed by a wink. The timing does not seem coincidental. This week, three manufacturers came up with foldable phones. Samsung presented the Z Flip4 and Fold4, Motorola came with the razr 2022 and Xiaomi with the Mix Fold 2. The BBK brands are therefore the only major makers of Android phones that have not shown a foldable phone this week.
The teaser shows a hinge that seems too wide for a folding phone like a razr or Z Flip, so it looks like OnePlus is working on a mini-tablet like the Z Fold or Mi Fold. It is still unclear when the phone should be released.
OnePlus sister brand OPPO previously released the foldable Find N. That happened in China late last year. According to an earlier rumor, OPPO plans to release multiple foldable phones worldwide later this year. It previously registered the names Find N Fold and Find N Flip, but now it also has the names Find NOW, Find NZ, Find N Pocket and Find N Roller fixed. This happened at the European Intellectual Property Office EUIPO. OnePlus and OPPO have come closer together in recent years, although they still use their separate brand names. The company has recently made no new applications to EUIPO for OnePlus names.
