OnePlus starts free sale One smartphone
OnePlus no longer asks for an invitation to buy the One smartphone. Although the company previously briefly included a period of free sale, the device can now be purchased without an invitation while stocks last.
Normally, an invitation is necessary to purchase the One via the OnePlus website, but this is not necessary at the moment. The Chinese manufacturer seems to want to make it possible for everyone to buy a One because of the holidays. Both the 16GB version and the 64GB version are available for 269 euros and 299 euros respectively.
It is not the first time that OnePlus has abandoned its invitation system for the sale of the One. The free sale was also opened earlier, but then it was a very short period. Now the sale without invitation seems to apply for a longer period of time, although OnePlus has provided little clarity about this: as long as there is stock, the manufacturer does not ask for an invite.
The OnePlus One has become popular in the past year for its high-end hardware at a relatively low price. More than half a million units have now been sold. A successor is expected to be released next summer, although it will probably come at a higher price.
