OnePlus refunds people who bought USB-C cables
Manufacturer OnePlus gives customers who have purchased a USB-C cable their money back. The OnePlus usb-c cable does not meet the specifications of usb-c 1.1, which means that adapters and electronics can be damaged by using the cable.
The cable is safe to use in combination with the OnePlus 2, claims the manufacturer. Anyone who has bought USB-c cables from OnePlus to use with other equipment can therefore get their money back, but there is no refund for the cable that the manufacturer provides in the box.
OnePlus set up the refund after a notification from Google that the cable does not meet the USB-C 1.1 standard. For that, the cable needs a 56kΩ resistor, but the resistance is only 10kΩ. In addition, OnePlus says that it only becomes really unsafe when charging, for example, a Nexus 5X or 6P with a power bank without a self-regulation mechanism and CE mark.
The money-back promotion will last until December 31. It is unknown how many of these cables OnePlus has sold. The manufacturer is now working on cables that do meet the specification.
