OnePlus promises Android O update for OnePlus 3 and 3T
OnePlus promises that its two latest smartphones, the 3 and 3T, will receive an update to Android O. Google has already put some previews of Android O online and plans to release the new version of its operating system in August.
It is unknown when OnePlus plans to release the update. Director Pete Lau confirms only that the devices will get an update, but does not speak about the roadmap for it. The OnePlus 3 and 3T received an update to Android Nougat from the end of December, which was also released in August.
OnePlus stopped selling the 3 in November and has since stopped selling the 3T. This is happening in the run-up to the release of the latest model, which will be named OnePlus 5. It comes out this summer.
Users of OnePlus phones seem to be critical of the director’s comments, including on Reddit. The manufacturer promised to provide the OnePlus 2 with Android Nougat last year, but that update is still not available. OnePlus promised regular security updates with new patches for the 2 and X, but those updates hardly come out for both phones and they also contain older patches. In addition, the Android 6.0 update for the OnePlus X took a long time.
